Report: Atletico Madrid Eyeing Gavi for Summer Transfer
Fichajes claims that Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has an intent to secure the services of Barcelona midfielder Pablo Páez “Gavi” during the next summer transfer window.
Considering that Gavi is regarded as one of the most talented young prospects in Spanish football, he hasn’t had the most productive season, albeit he is still in the short- and long-term plans of Xavi Hernández’s Barcelona.
Simeone has a track record of strongly preferring more physical, active, and tactically oriented players—and Gavi is no exception. The Argentine coach views the 20-year-old as a potential strong asset for Atletico’s midfield, which would bolster their physical presence in both La Liga and the Champions League.
From Barcelona’s point of view, they still deem Gavi to be a reliable asset and are confident he has what it takes. The club considers his diminished playing time to be a standard case of healthy competition rather than lowered output. The club from Catalonia does not seem interested in parting with the young prospect but would need a hefty sum if transfer discussions were to take place.
So far, any possible transfer of Gavi would need:
An exorbitant monetary offer — sufficient to sway Barcelona,
A green light from the player — seeing that he is still bound by an important agreement with the club.
At this moment Gavi, after all, keeps training.
